Certificate in Foundation Studies – Allied Trades (Level 2)

This certificate gives you an introduction to the automotive, carpentry, collision repair, engineering and electrical programmes. It’s a hands-on programme and will include some theory so that you’ll develop knowledge as well as skills.

This programme fulfils the requirements to enter into trades certificates. Throughout this programme you’ll learn to link theory with practical so you can explore, interpret and create quality products. During the practical sessions you’ll acquire the skills needed to carry out real workplace tasks.

Sam Talbot, Graduate

Winner of the Hawke’s Bay Carpentry Apprentice Challenge Sam Talbot paced himself perfectly to claim a place in the national finals being held later this year.

“It’s not a race,” says Sam, who feels he learnt from competing in the last two events.   “It’s a lot easier knowing more and this year I took my time.”

Sam was one of eight top EIT apprentices selected to take part in the regional challenge.  Each competitor was asked to build a garden bench under pressure of time and watched by shoppers and supporters at the TUMU ITM centre in Napier.

Todd Rogers

Todd Rogers

After leaving Central Hawke’s Bay College, Todd signed up for a carpentry apprenticeship in the New Zealand Army.   During his 15-year service, he was the army’s construction manager with responsibility for as many as 52 apprentices in training.

Get a 'taste' of all the trades, Certificate in Applied Practical Skills - Trade Skills provides students with an introduction to carpentry, electrical, automotive, mechanical engineering and collision repair.

Purpose designed and equipped with state-of-the-art teaching technology, EIT’s newest building reflects an innovative approach to trades training. The new facility provides a ‘hands on’ learning environment for over 190 students per week.
