King Family Social Work Scholarship
King Family Social Work Scholarship
This scholarship recognises members of the King family who have demonstrated dedicated commitment and extensive service to Birthright Hawkes Bay Child and Family Care Trust (and predecessors) over an extended period, including professional advice, administrative support, volunteer hours and Trustee positions.
What does the scholarship cover?
- A $5000 grant to assist with course fees and associated costs during final (4th) year of studies.
- External mentoring from qualified social work staff within Birthright Hawkes Bay.
- Opportunity for final year work placement and paid part time employment to align with final year of study.
- Opportunity for full time employment as a graduate social worker following successful completion of studies.
Who can apply:
Applications for this scholarship are open to any student currently completing the 3rd year of a Bachelor of Social Work degree, who also intends to fully complete their studies during the following year.

Te Maari Joe & Audrey Robin (Social Work) Scholarship
Te Maari Joe & Audrey Robin (Social Work) Scholarship Applications are now closed for 2025.
In 2025, Te Kupenga Haoura introduced two new scholarships to students at EIT | Te Aho a Māui in honour of Te Maai Joe and Audrey Robin. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to one Bachelor of Social Work student studying full-time in their 3rd or 4th year of the degree at EIT Hawke’s Bay.
Whaea Te Maari and Whaea Audrey were instrumental in the founding of Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri more than 30 years’ ago; driven by a mission ‘to fund and provide a broad range of health, education and social services based on kaupapa Māori practices’ in Ahuriri and wider regions. We honour their vision of healthy, strong, well-educated and informed communities through the gifting of these scholarships.

By supporting and encouraging others, we help them reach their full potential.
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates:
- Willingness to work within a kaupapa Māori framework.
- Sharing the vision and tikanga of Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri.
- A focus on social care, leadership, and community involvement.
The recipient of the Te Maari Joe & Audrey Robin (Social Work) Scholarship must be willing to complete a placement at Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri.
Scholarship value: $5,000
Applications open: Wednesday, 1st October 2025
Applications close: Monday 3rd November 2025
Eligibility criteria:
- New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Open to individuals of any ethnic background
- Applicants must have a full-time or equivalent study load.
- Applicants must be undertaking their 3rd or 4th year studies of the Bachelor of Social Work Degree at EIT Hawke’s Bay.
*Applicants who have received other scholarship funding are still eligible to apply for this scholarship.
