Year 13 Degree Scholarship
EIT | Te Pūkenga is offering a limited number of Year 13 Degree Scholarships.
The Year 13 Degree Scholarship covers one year of full-time study and is available to Hawke’s Bay, Tairāwhiti (Gisborne) and Taupō based students who are beginning an undergraduate degree in 2023.
NOTE: Scholarships for the Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts (Te Toi o Ngā Rangi), the Bachelor of Viticulture and Wine Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Biodiversity Management) and Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing degrees are open to students nation-wide.
For students who qualify to have their first year paid for under the government fees-free policy, the Year 13 Degree Scholarship will cover the second year of the undergraduate degree (please see eligibility criteria below). You can visit feesfree.govt.nz to find out more about the first-year free government policy.
To be eligible for a Year 13 Degree Scholarship applicants must:
- Be a Year 13 graduate from a secondary school in the Hawke’s Bay or Gisborne regions – from Hicks Bay to Dannevirke or
- Be a Year 13 graduate from any secondary school in New Zealand and be planning to study the Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts (Te Toi o Ngā Rangi), the Bachelor of Viticulture and Wine Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Biodiversity Management) and Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing degree at EIT | Te Pūkenga.
- Meet the degree entry criteria and be accepted to undertake full-time degree study at EIT | Te Pukenga.
- Be a NZ citizen or permanent resident.
Students who receive government fees-free in year one must also:
- Pass at least 75% of their courses, and
- Undertake their second consecutive year of full-time degree study at EIT | Te Pūkenga, and
- Meet all programme requirements for advancement to the second year of their degree.
How to apply:
- You must apply for your Year 13 Degree Scholarship prior to the start of the first year of your degree.
- Applications close at the end of November each year. Some programmes may allow late application, however this is an exception.
- As well as completing your EIT | Te Pūkenga enrolment, you need to complete the Year 13 Degree Scholarship application form.
You will need to provide the following along with your application:
- A letter of endorsement from your high school (excluding Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) applicants).
- Any additional letters or references requested in your application pack or that you would like to include to support your application.
Receiving the Year 13 Degree Scholarship in Year Two
The Year 13 Degree Scholarship must be applied for prior to the start of the first year of an undergraduate degree to qualify for year two free. Applications received after the start of year one cannot be considered.
If you meet the criteria for the Year 13 Degree Scholarship you will not need to do anything to receive payment in your second consecutive year of degree study. EIT | Te Pūkenga will assess your entitlement and apply the scholarship.
At the start of your second year of study you will be sent a letter letting you know whether you qualify to receive the scholarship in year two.
Costs not covered by the Year 13 Degree Scholarship
Costs that are not covered by the Year 13 Degree Scholarship are:
- Student services levy
- Course related costs
- Fees for any extra courses over the equivalent of full-time study

EIT | Te Pūkenga is delighted to be one of the New Zealand tertiary institutions to offer FREE programmes for eligible first time tertiary students.
Margaret Hetley Scholarship
Margaret Hetley Scholarship, EIT | Te Pūkenga Hawke’s Bay
The Margaret Hetley Scholarship was established to assist women to undertake tertiary study and to commemorate the centennial year of the women’s suffrage movement. It was named in memory of Margaret Hetley who gifted the EIT | Te Pūkenga Taradale campus to the Hawke’s Bay community.
Payment of the scholarship will be made by the Otātara Trust Inc.
Criteria
The applicant must be:
- Female
- Based in Hawke’s Bay
- A NZ permanent resident or a NZ citizen
- A full-time student
The applicant can receive other scholarships and funding.
Funds: $ 2500

EIT | Te Pūkenga Youth Scholarship
Youth Scholarship
To be eligible for this Scholarship students must meet the Youth Guarantee Criteria which is:
- Be 16 – 19 years old on the start date of their programme. Fifteen year olds may be eligible with an early leaving exemption from Ministry of Education.
- Be enrolled in a Youth Guarantee eligible full-time programme of study at Level 1 – 3.

Graduate Women Manawatu EIT | Te Pūkenga Award
The Graduate Women Manawatu Charitable Trust Inc. operates Academic Dress Hire. The profits from regalia hire go towards offering scholarships to women in degree level study attending EIT | Te Pūkenga in the programme areas of Computing, Information Technology, Viticulture and Wine Science, Sport and Exercise Science, and Entrepreneurialism.
Up to two awards with a value of up to $2,000 each, may be awarded to women students enrolled at EIT | Te Pūkenga, who have excelled in terms of effort and achievement.

The Faculty Dean’s Study Abroad Scholarship
The Faculty Dean’s Study Abroad Scholarship

Heritage Incorporated Magnus Grant
Heritage Incorporated Magnus Grant
Heritage (Inc) was established by Dr O C Mazengarb CBE QC MA LLD and colleagues in 1942 to assist children, initially just sons, who had lost their fathers in the war. Then Prime Minister, Peter Fraser, requested that daughters also be added to the logo and as recipients of assistance, be it counselling or financial.
