Health Service

Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri deliver free nurse-led primary healthcare services to EIT students and staff, and children attending Ōtātara Children’s Centre.

Te Kupenga Hauora operating hours are 9am – 3pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during term time in the EIT Medical Clinic (K Block Health Centre). This is a walk-in service, no appointment required. Contact us on (06) 835 1840 if you have any questions.

Already have your own health provider? No worries — you can still use this service!

We Offer:

  • General Health Checks: Weight, blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, oxygen levels, ears and throat checks and blood sugar levels.
  • Skin Conditions: Infections of skin, boils, scabies, eczema and headlice.
  • Sexual Health and Continuation of Contraception: Repeat prescriptions of contraception (such as Progesterone only pill, combined oral contraception, depo-provera injection), tests for: pregnancy, STIs, urine tests, bloods such as HIV and syphilis. 
  • Stop Smoking Support (excludes vaping)
  • Immunisations: All childhood immunisations, human papillomavirus (HPV), tetanus-diphtheria-whooping cough, measles-mumps-rubella(MMR), flu & cold. 
  • Cervical Screening: HPV self-swabs and smear testing follow up by appointment (if required) (25 years +)
  • Breast Screening awareness: Support for mammograms (45 years +)
  • Nurse Prescriber on occasions: Medications relating to some long term and urgent conditions on a case-by-case basis. This is not in replace of a GP, some conditions may need further referral to GP. Non funded medications may incur a medication and script charge therefore on occasions patients may be advised to buy from chemist to avoid script charges. 

Counselling Service

The EIT Counsellor Diana Kirton offers free therapeutic support for students and staff. She is based at the EIT Health Centre room K106. You can contact Diana by call or text 027 272 1660 or email dkirton@eit.ac.nz to make an appointment. She is available Monday – Wednesday 8am – 5pm.

Wellbeing Service

Our Student Wellbeing Advisor Barbara West who is a Registered Social Worker is available for wellbeing advice, guidance and wrap around support. She is based at the EIT Health Centre room K117. You can contact Barbara by call or text 027 213 9787 or email bwest@eit.ac.nz  She is available Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm.

EIT Tairāwhiti

Turanga Health

EIT Tairāwhiti has partnered with Turanga Health to offer you FREE access to their nurse-led Health and Wellness Centre.

Whether you’re dealing with a nagging cold, need some advice on managing stress, or just want to chat about your mental health, Turanga Health is here to support you every step of the way.

How to access the services provided by Turanga Health:

All EIT students can walk in off the street – no appointment needed! Just remember to bring your student ID along with you, and you’ll receive free, confidential care and guidance.
