Scholarships

Below are a few of the local scholarships that are on offer.  There are many more scholarhips offered nationally and information about these is online on a database called “Breakout”.  Breakout is accessible at EIT or at some public libraries.  If you would like to come to EIT to peruse the Breakout database don’t hesitate to contact info@eit.ac.nz.

  • General Scholarships

    Year 13 Degree Study Scholarship

    The Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is offering a limited  number of Year 13 Degree Scholarships.

    • There is an application form to complete to accompany your enrolment form. You can access this Scholarship application form
    • The scholarships are available to Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti (Gisborne) students for 2015 for all under graduate degrees.
    • Scholarships for the Bachelor of Viticulture and the Bachelor of Wine Science and the concurrent degree are open to students nation-wide.
    • The scholarships are 100% FREE tuition for Year One.  See the fees section of this information pack for the value.
    • Scholarships for the Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts (Te Toi o Ngā Rangi), the Bachelor of Viticulture, the Bachelor of Wine Science and the Viticulture/Wine Science concurrent degree are open to students nation-wide.

    Charges that the student is responsible for are: student services levy, course related costs, and fees for any extra courses over the equivalent of full-time study.

    Priority applications close on Friday, 17 October 2014.  Some programmes may allow for later application, however this is an exception.

    Applicants must:

    • Undertake full-time degree study at EIT in February 2015.
    • Be a 2014 Year 13 graduate from a secondary school in the Hawke’s Bay or Gisborne regions – from Hicks Bay to Dannevirke.
    • Meet the EIT Year 13 degree entry criteria to be eligible.
    • Be a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident.

    Margaret Hetley Scholarship

    For: Academic achievement award for female school-leavers in Year 13, enrolling directly into an EIT programme of at least 1 years duration.

    Sport Hawkes Bay – EIT Sports Scholarship

    For: Any student willing to represent a sports team in Hawke’s Bay whilst studying at EIT.

    EIT Youth Scholarship

    Provided by: EIT
    For: To be eligible for this Scholarship students must meet the Youth Guarantee Criteria which is:

    • Be 16 or 17 years old on the start date of their programme of study or 15 years old with an early leaving exemption or an 18 year old teen parent beneficiary
    • Be enrolled in a full time programme of study at Level 1-3
    • Youth Guarantee students are not eligible for Student Loans administered by Study Link.

    Zonta Club of Hawkes Bay Inc Scholarship

    Provided by: Catherine Charman Award
    For: The applicant must be a woman over the age of 30 years who requires assistance for further study or to train in her chosen career.  The applicant must be resident in Hawkes Bay but can use the award outside the region.

    Hawkes Bay A & P Society Young Vintners Award

    Provided by: Hawkes Bay A & P Society & Craggy Range Vineyards Limited
    For: Most outstanding second year full-time Bachelor of Wine Science student or Third year full-time concurrent Bachelor of Wine Science /Bachelor of Viticulture student who has demonstrated significant application and achievement within all facets of wine production , through nomination and interview.
    Funds: $3,500 paid toward final year tuition fees and paid work for the following vintage at Craggy Range.

    The Constellation Brands Scholarship

    Provided by: Constellation Brands NZ
    For:  This award is made annually to a student who has demonstrated academic merit and a special interest or aptitude for Viticulture and who has completed two full years of a  Bachelor of Viticulture or Concurrent degree and beginning their third year of full time study.

    Funds: $5,000 towards the student’s course fees for their third year of study and paid employment for a minimum of 60 days with Constellation’s Viticultural team.
    Closing date: By nomination(Selection by interview in February/March of the students’ third year of study).

    Diana Lewer Memorial Award for Excellence in Mental Health Nursing

  • Māori & Pacific Scholarships

    There is a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships and awards available to Māori and Pacific students who are studying at EIT. We can help you with the completion, form-filling and posting out of all scholarship applications.

    To talk to us directly, please make an appointment at the Service Desk in the Library.

    You should keep the following in mind:-

    • Scholarships are available based on many characteristics and criteria including gender, the discipline you’re studying, and the institution you’re attending, so be sure to consider all your options
    • You must ensure that you include all necessary information with your application
    • In many cases you will need to support your application with copies of academic transcripts
    • Submit your application for scholarships before the close dates (include time for posting)
    • You can apply for more than one scholarship.
