Scholarships

Below are a few of the local scholarships that are on offer.  There are many more scholarhips offered nationally and information about these is online on a database called “Breakout”.  Breakout is accessible at EIT or at some public libraries.  If you would like to come to EIT to peruse the Breakout database don’t hesitate to contact info@eit.ac.nz.

  • General Scholarships

    Year 13 Degree Study Grant

    • A scholarship will be available to every Hawkes Bay Year 13 Secondary School graduate commencing degree study at EIT in February 2013.
    • 100% FREE tuition fee for Year One.
    • 50% FREE tuition for Year Two (subject to applicants meeting agreed standards).
    • Fees that are the responsibility of the student are: Students Association, Course Related Costs, and any extra courses over the equivalent of full-time study.
    • Applicants must:
    • Undertake full-time degree study at EIT in February 2013.
    • Be a Year 13 school-leaver from a secondary school in the Hawke’s Bay region from Dannevirke to Wairoa, Gisborne and Taupo.
    • Meet the EIT Year 13 degree entry criteria to be eligible.
    • Be a New Zealand resident.
    • Scholarships are also available to all Year 13 students in New Zealand should they study the Bachelor of Viticulture or the Bachelor of Wine Science commencing in February 2013.  Applicants must meet the degree entry criteria.

    Margaret Hetley Scholarship

    Provided by: Otatara Trust-EIT Hawkes Bay
    For: Academic achievement award for female school-leavers in Year 13, enrolling directly into an EIT programme of at least 1 years duration.

    TeachNZ Scholarship

    For:
    • People fluent in te reo Maori wishing to train as a primary teacher in bilingual or immersion classes.
    • People wishing to train as early childhood teachers who have knowledge and experience working with Maori or Pasifika communities.

  • NZDF Reserve Forces Hawke’s Bay Education Grants

    What are the NZDF Reserve Forces – Hawke’s Bay Education Grants?

    Three grants are offered to secondary school and EIT students to combine study and volunteer for the New Zealand Army Territorial Force.  The student will be able to complete their basic training and then study at EIT.  They will have 20 days per annum working with the Reserves, during some weekends.

    The grant is generously funded by GEON, the RSA and the Services Chartiable Trust.

    The grant is $2,000 and will be paid in two allocations of $1,000.

    • Payment One – Successful completion of the Army Basic training course and successful completion of a fulltime course in the first semester at EIT.
    • Payment Two – Successful completion of a full year of “efficient service” with the Territorial Force and successful completion of a full year course at EIT.

    Who may apply?

    Applicants must be 17 years old and meet the entry criteria tests for the reserves and the entry criteria for their selected programme of study at EIT.

    Applicants must have NCEA Level 1 in both English and Maths (minimum of 12 credits in each).

    Applicants must be from the Hawke’s Bay region, from Wairoa to Dannevirke.

    Both male and female applicants are eligible.

  • Wine Science and Viticulture Scholarships

    EIT Tairawhiti Grapegrowing and Winemaking Scholarship

    Provided by:  EIT Tairawhiti
    For: The Grapegrowing and Winemaking scholarships are for those students who are accepted onto the Certificate in Grapegrowing and Winemaking full year programme at EIT Tairawhiti, and have been successful in their application providing detail of their motivation to work in the wine or viticulture industries.
    Funds: $2,000 towards the student’s course for the 1 year Tairawhiti Certificate in Grape growing and winemaking

    Bragato Exchange Scholarship

    Provided by: Taradale Rotary Club, New Zealand Winegrowers & EIT Hawkes Bay
    For: A second year Bachelor of Wine student or third year Bachelor of Wine Science/Bachelor of Viticulture Concurrent student, selected by panel on merit.
    Funds: An all expenses paid, month long opportunity to study viticulture and wine making in Italy.

    Hawkes Bay A & P Society Young Vintners Award

    For: Most outstanding second year full-time Bachelor of Wine Science student or Third year full-time concurrent Bachelor of Wine Science /Bachelor of Viticulture student who has demonstrated significant application and achievement within all facets of wine production , through nomination and interview.
    Funds: $3,500 paid toward final year tuition fees and paid work for the following vintage at Craggy Range.

    Wine Science and Viticulture Degree Study Grants for School Leavers

    For: Any first year Bachelor of Wine or Bachelor of Viticulture or Concurrent Bachelor of Wine Science/Bachelor of Viticulture student who completed Year 13 in a New Zealand school the previous year.
    Funds: All first year tuition fees paid. Half of second year tuition fees paid.

    The Constellation Brands Scholarship

    Provided by: Constellation Brands NZ
    For:  This award is made annually to a student who has demonstrated academic merit and a special interest or aptitude for Viticulture and who has completed two full years of a  Bachelor of Viticulture or Concurrent degree and beginning their third year of full time study.

    Funds: $5,000 towards the student’s course fees for their third year of study and paid employment for a minimum of 60 days with Constellation’s Viticultural team.
    Closing date: By nomination(Selection by interview in February/March of the students’ third year of study).

    Diana Lewer Memorial Award for Excellence in Mental Health Nursing

  • Māori & Pacific Scholarships

    There is a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships and awards available to Māori and Pacific students who are studying at EIT. We can help you with the completion, form-filling and posting out of all scholarship applications.

    To talk to us directly, please make an appointment at the Service Desk in the Library.

    You should keep the following in mind:-

    • Scholarships are available based on many characteristics and criteria including gender, the discipline you’re studying, and the institution you’re attending, so be sure to consider all your options
    • You must ensure that you include all necessary information with your application
    • In many cases you will need to support your application with copies of academic transcripts
    • Submit your application for scholarships before the close dates (include time for posting)
    • You can apply for more than one scholarship.
