The NZ Certificate in Horticulture Production (Fruit Production strand) (Level 4) programme covers the implementation and monitoring of fruit crops to achieve production goals and standards through orchard operations, protection and management techniques.

As a graduate of the programme you will be able to pursue a professional career as an Orchard Leading Hand, Foreman, Manager or future Owner/Operator. In particular, the programme is designed to:

  • Provide stimulating collegial support for workers in horticulture.
  • Offer work-place based training with supported theory study at EIT | Te Pūkenga.
  • Provide a pathway for ongoing and further study in horticulture.

Your future career and study opportunities

On successful completion you can pursue employment as:

  • Orchard Supervisor
  • Orchard/ Leading Hand
  • Orchard Foreperson

This qualification builds on the NZ Certificate in Horticulture (Fruit Production strand) (Level 3) and leads on to the:

  • NZ Diploma in Horticulture Production (Fruit Production) (Level 5)

Scholarships

EIT | Te Pūkenga offers a variety of scholarships across various subjects and programme levels.  Some scholarships are based on your age, some are specific to the subject you want to study.  Not all scholarships are based on your academic ability and anyone wanting to study should investigate what scholarships are available to them.  

You can find a list of EIT | Te Pūkenga scholarships here however there are many more scholarships offered nationally.  Information about these is on an database called “givME”. givME is accessible at EIT | Te Pūkenga or at some public libraries.
