COVID-19 – Update for students 23 March 2020

March 23, 2020

Kia ora

The Prime Minister has announced that New Zealand is moving to COVID-19 Alert Level 3 from now, and Alert Level 4 from Wednesday.

This is to inform you that:

  • EIT will close from Wednesday, March 25.
  • This means that all buildings, the library, and all services will be closed.  There will be no staff on-campus or at our Regional Learning Centres.
  • EIT remains open until Tuesday, March 24 at 4.30 pm.
  • The Libraries will be closed from Monday at 8 pm so that staff can prepare for providing student support at a distance.
  • EIT teaching and assessments will be suspended short-term.  Where possible, EIT staff will be completing preparations for alternative delivery approaches to normal face-to-face class teaching, including online and other teaching and learning methods.  There are some programmes that are fully online and should not be affected by the closure, and others that might be available sooner. Your Programme Coordinator will be in touch with you to let you know if this is the case.
  • EIT student accommodation remains open.  We encourage physical distancing and good hygiene practice.
  • As a reminder, it’s important to look after your wellbeing during this time.  For support call or text the free national service on 1737.  Younited, the Students’ Association, are also providing support.  You can call Matt on 027 523 4579 or e-mail info@younited.ac.nz
  • As always, we encourage people to stay safe and follow all guidance of the government at https://covid19.govt.nz/

We’ll continue to update you through email, via our website, and the EIT Facebook pages.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your study, please contact your Programme Coordinator or email to covid19@eit.ac.nz.

Stay safe and keep well.
