Gillian Marshall’s mixed-media installation explored ‘PTSD- The Invisible Wound of Warfare’

The achievements of three Masters students were celebrated at a recent exhibition at EIT. The exhibition, organised by the students, was the final requirement of their Master of Professional Creative Practice. The 18-month course sees students develop research and critical evaluation skills, write an exegesis, while developing a body of creative work.

Eve Kireka explored ‘Aspects of Tikanga Māori, Gangs and Religion’ with a focus on the clothing worn by her and other family members. The redemptive and healing aspects of artwork are discussed from a personal standpoint. Eve continues her creative practice now that she has finished her studies.

Matiu Whiting’s exegesis and exhibition involved ‘Experiments in passive electric guitar tone circuits’ that culminated in the release of an album of original recorded works. Matiu is a bass and guitar player, who teaches  Contemporary Music Performance at EIT.

Gillian Marshall’s mixed-media installation explored ‘PTSD- The Invisible Wound of Warfare’. Gilly’s works, backed by coffin-like frames, explored the ways in which the soldiers and their families have been affected by war. Gilly teaches technology at Tamatea High School.
