Chocolate Demo at Martin’s Marquee at Poverty Bay A&P Show

October 12, 2017

EIT Cooking Class for Show – Mark Morrell (tutor), Eden Dawson (Level 4 Cookery Student), Kelli Macdonald (Martins Event and Party Hire)

Mark Morrell is promising chocolate like no other in a special brush strokes demo at Martins Event and Party Hire Demo marquee.

The EIT Catering tutor and former owner of the popular Morrell’s Bakery- will be joining forces with star student Eden Dawson for the demonstration, to be held between 12- noon and 1pm on Saturday.

“Using chocolate brush strokes to decorate cakes and desserts is very much in fashion right now and is simple to do if you are using the right product.”

Martins Event and Party Hire, who carry the range, are supplying all the coloured chocolate products.

Eden is currently studying Cookery Level 4  and is moving to Hawkes Bay next year to study NZ Diploma in Cookery (Advanced) Level 5, Patisserie at EIT Hawkes Bay.

As part of her current studies, Eden put together two competitions for the Show – An iced cupcake competition for 10-14 years old and a celebration cake for those 14 and older. The winning entries will be on display at the marquee.

Gold, silver and bronze awards will be given in each division.

As well as enlightening people at the demo, Mark will be talking about the New Zealand Certificate in Baking that is being introduced at EIT Tairāwhiti next year.

The year long course has been very successful at the Hawkes Bay campus and we are anticipating a similar uptake here say’s Mark.

“There is a shortage of skilled people in this industry and as a result the courses fill very quickly”. We are working with local business owners to ensure the course is helpful for this community.
