You can imagine my delight when I heard that a young Canadian chose EIT for wine studies.
Touring New Zealand during his gap year, Wes Johnson never dreamt he would return to study wine science.
When he returned to British Columbia, he worked in his parents’ vineyard and winery where Kiwi contract winemaker Dan Barker suggested he study wine science at EIT.
Dan, who co-owns Moana Park with his wife Kaylea, offered Wes part-time work at their award-winning winery in Puketapu
Dan, who employs many EIT students and graduates, gained his Bachelor of Wine Science from EIT so he was well-placed to recommend the degree.
Wes says EIT small classes are good, and students get plenty of support from the lecturers.
What he likes about wine making is that it’s an art as much as a scientific process.
