EIT Tairawhiti Kaiarahi Toa Corporate Waka Ama Races

January 30, 2013

The challenge is laid to businesses from throughout the region to take part in the EIT Tairawhiti Kaiarahi Toa Corporate Waka Ama Races in February.

World-ranked paddler Kiwi Campbell, organiser of the races, is hoping for another good turnout at an event that provides plenty of fun, seems to bring out the highly competitive side of all sorts.

Last summer 26 teams, starring paddlers ranging in age from nine through to 60-plus, turned out to take part in the event, and Campbell is hoping for even more this time.

They came from all walks of life – students, lawyers, doctors, nurses, tutors and social workers, to name but a few.

The corporate races had been scheduled to run in November, but bad weather forced a shift.

February’s date is still to be confirmed as much will depend on tides and the weather – once again.

There’s plenty of honour and glory on the line, along with spot prizes. Anyone interested should contact Florrie Brooking on 027 287 6668 or fbrooking@eit.ac.nz .

“It’s a great event to be part of,” says Campbell. “It’s fun, but is a great team builder for business too.”

Money raised through the event will do towards Kaiarahi Toa, the Horouta Waka Hoe Club’s open women’s team, who will be competing in the 42-kilometre Takapuna Challenge next year.
