Agriculture - Level 2
Kick-start your future in farming
Do you enjoy working with animals, being outdoors and want to know more about what it would be like to work on a farm? Studying Agriculture is a great first step towards a career within the backbone of New Zealand’s economy.

Course Aim
Provide students who are new to working in agriculture with the opportunity to experience the industry firsthand, helping them make an informed decision about further study and/or employment.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Primary Industries

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

Develop basic agricultural skills required for employment as farm assistants, cadets or trainees in the rural sector.

Learn to work safely while demonstrating knowledge of chainsaw use, identifying farm fencing components, dagging and ring crutching sheep, and handling and providing appropriate care for livestock.

Gain the knowledge and experience needed to decide whether to pursue a career in agriculture.

Animal Care - Level 2 (Hawke's Bay Only)
Perfect for animal lovers
Do you like working with and looking after animals, or are you thinking of a possible
career in animal care or veterinary nursing? Gain knowledge and practical skills in caring for and managing a range of animals in EIT’s purpose-built animal handling facilities.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in caring for birds, fish, rodents, and rabbits, while developing skills in animal health, husbandry, hygiene, and welfare. This course helps students make informed decisions about further study and prepares them for entry-level employment in the animal care industry.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Primary Industries

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will:
- Have learned to handle and provide appropriate care for companion animals including rabbits, rodents, ornamental fish and birds.
- Have recognised normal and abnormal behaviour, carried out routine health procedures, and responded appropriately to common health concerns.
- Have applied effective hygiene, cleaning, disinfection, and waste management practice.
- Have decided if they wish to pursue a career working with animals.

Automotive - Level 2

in EIT’s fully-equipped automotive workshop

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to experience the work of an automotive mechanic to assist them in making an informed decision for further study and/or employment.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Manufacturing and Technology

Barbering Services - Level 2 (Hawke's Bay Only)
Experience the wonderful world of barbering.
If you enjoy working with people and want to be part of a modern, creative industry, this hands-on course is for you. Learn a range of barbering techniques and styling skills, provide client services in a real barbering environment, maintain professional tools and equipment, master nape shaping and line outs, and meet industry professionals.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to experience working in the creative field of barbering, doing so in a fully equipped modern barbershop. This course will assist you in making an informed decision on future study and/or employment.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Service Industries

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will:
- Have developed elementary knowledge of barbering.
- Be able to communicate with clients, provide client service and care, and prepare clients for service in a barber environment.
- Have knowledge of how to use, clean and maintain their tools.

Building and Construction - Level 2
Ready to build your future?
Explore the building and construction industry while developing practical skills in using tools, interpreting plans, working as part of a team and completing real construction projects.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to experience working in the field of building and construction to assist them in making an informed decision for further study and/or employment.
To provide a curriculum scope that enables students to complete the National Certificate in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills (Level 2), provided Schools complement the required standards for this qualification.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Construction and Infrastructure

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will:
- Have developed theoretical and practical knowledge and skills that are fundamental to a wide range of trade-related occupations, including the use of tools, safety, communication in the workplace, carrying out construction projects, and knowledge of the industries in this field.
- Have decided if they wish to pursue a career in the trades.

This course will be taught one day per week on Fridays at the EIT Taradale and/or the Tairāwhiti campus, unless negotiated otherwise between the Contributing School and the HBTSTA Manager.

Computer Technician - Level 2 (Tairāwhiti Only)
Turn Your Curiosity into Code
Are you interested in computing, how technology works, developing websites and writing software? If you’re thinking about a career in computing or information technology, this hands-on STEM course is a great first step. Explore how computers work while learning about hardware, operating systems, networking and digital security. You’ll also troubleshoot real computer issues, design and programme a VEX IQ robot, build your own website using HTML and CSS, and learn the fundamentals of coding with Python.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to gain a broad range of computing skills and knowledge ranging from computer theory and basic trouble shooting, to coding, robotics and web design, to assist them in making an informed decision for further study and/or employment.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Computing and Technology
ISB: Electrotechology, Information Technology and Creative

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will:
- Have developed a range of foundation skills and theoretical knowledge of computer hardware, software, networking, and ergonomics as well as practical skills in trouble shooting, hardware assembly, coding and robotics (using Vex IQ’s) and web design (using HTML and CSS).

Creative Digital Skills - Level 2 (Tairāwhiti Only)

Hair and Beauty Services - Level 2
Where Style Meets Confidence
Do you enjoy helping people look and feel their best? If you have a passion for hair, beauty and client care, this hands-on course will help you build practical skills in a real salon environment. Learn a range of hairdressing techniques, including long hair styling, hair and scalp treatments and styling, while developing makeup and self-styling skills.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to experience working in the field of hairdressing and beauty services to assist them in making an informed decision for further study and/or employment.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Service Industries

Hospitality - Level 2
Turn Your Passion for Food into a Career
Love cooking for others? If you’re a foodie, this hands-on course is a great introduction to the hospitality industry. Learn to prepare and present food, make barista coffee, serve customers, and safely use commercial kitchen equipment in EIT’s modern training kitchen.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to experience working in the field of hospitality to assist them in making an informed decision for further study and/or employment.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Service Industries

Integrated Trade Skills - Level 2
Try a Trade. Find Your Future.
Not sure which trade is right for you? Explore automotive, engineering, building, electrical and plumbing in this hands-on course. You’ll service a motor vehicle, create an engineering project, learn basic electrical techniques, build timber garden furniture, and complete a plumbing project while discovering the trade that suits you best.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to experience a range of different trades to enable them to make an informed decision for further study and/or employment.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Manufacturing and Technology

Pikitoi - Level 2
Explore the Creativity of Māori Art
Discover the world of Māori visual art in this hands-on course. Explore traditional and contemporary Māori design concepts while creating your own artwork, learning appropriate karakia and tikanga, and developing skills in painting and whakairo.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to experience working in the Māori Arts and design field.

Sport, Coaching and Exercise - Level 2
Train Smart. Coach Strong. Play Safe.
Want to get active, build confidence and develop real-world sport and recreation skills? In this hands-on course you’ll learn how to prevent injuries, coach others, explore the role of sports officials, and plan and participate in active recreation.

Course Aim
To provide students with the opportunity to experience working in the field of sport, exercise and recreation to assist them in making an informed decision for further study and/or employment.
Level 2 Vocational Pathway: Service Industries
