Taster Days EIT is offering a range of exciting Taster Day workshops for high school aged students (15-19 years), a hands-on experience of what studying at EIT could be like.
July Taster Day Workshops
EIT is offering a range of exciting Taster Day workshops during the July school holidays.
These FREE sessions are designed to give young people aged 15-19 a hands-on experience of what studying at EIT could be like.
Whether you’re currently in school or not, you’re welcome to attend one (or more!) of these workshops and explore your future study options.
Computing
Date: Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th July 2026
Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm
Ready to dive into the world of computing and artificial intelligence?
Join our Jetracer taster session where you’ll teach a cutting-edge AI car to navigate a large-scale track – no programming skills required!
Connect with fellow enthusiasts, work together to improve your AI car, and join an exciting race
Environmental Studies
Date: Thursday 16th July 2026
Time: 9.00am – 12.00pm
Are you keen to make a difference for our planet? Have you thought about a career that helps the environment?
Come along to our environmental studies taster session, meet our team, and explore environmental science through hands on laboratory activities. Take a walk and connect with nature at EIT’s Ōtātara Outdoor Learning Centre.
NOTE: Students will need closed shoes and hair tied back
Horticulture
Date: Wednesday 15 July 2026
Time: 9:00am – 12:30pm
Start the day learning how to identify key plants and why they matter.
Then visit the OOLC gully for a hands-on experience tracking and trapping pests. It’s interactive, practical, and gives you a real taste of working in horticulture and agriculture.
NOTE: Students will need closed shoes.
Social Work
Date: Wednesday 15th July 2026
Time: 9.30am – 12.00pm
Are you passionate about people and looking for a career where you can create real change?
Join us for an engaging 3-hour taster session and explore what it means to be a social worker in Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.
Our interactive session will introduce you to the values, roles, and impact of social work. Learn how social workers advocate for social justice, empower individuals and whānau, and work across diverse settings to strengthen communities.
Sport and Exercise Science
Date: Tuesday 14th July 2026
Time: 10.00am – 12.30pm
Are you passionate about health, fitness, and human performance?
Come along to our interactive taster session at EIT. Meet our experienced team, explore the science behind athletic performance, and get hands-on in our Sport Science Lab and dedicated Teaching Gym. Be prepared to move – this session includes practical activities!
Uncover the ways sport science improves physical performance, optimises movement, and promotes overall well-being.
Teaching Early Childhood Education
Date: Wednesday 15th July 2026
Time: 9.00am – 12.00pm
Come and experience a taster of what the world of an Early Childhood Education teacher looks like.
There will be some fun, interactive, hands-on activities to participate in, as well as more information of what it takes to study on the ECE programme. Looking forward to welcoming you into our space!
