Parking information
From 1 August, EIT is introducing a new digital parking payment system across campus.
Parking payment machines will be removed and replaced with ParkMate, making it easier to pay for parking and manage your parking sessions.
Please note: Parking rules and enforcement hours are not changing. The change relates only to how parking is paid for.
What’s changing?
From 1 August:
- Parking payment machines will be removed.
- Parking can be paid using the ParkMate App or ParkMate Guest (via a QR code on campus).
- Casual daily parking and subscription options remain available.
- Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras will automatically recognise vehicles entering and exiting campus.
- The ParkMate App can send arrival and departure reminders to help you start and stop your parking session.
- A 30 cent transaction fee applies to casual parking payments.
- Subscription payments include a 1.75% payment processing fee.

Before you arrive
To make your first visit after 1 August as easy as possible:
- Download the ParkMate App or plan to use ParkMate Guest.
- Check your vehicle registration details are correct.
- Read the FAQs below.
Staff parking permits
If you have already paid for a staff parking permit for part or all of 2026, you do not need to download the ParkMate App. Instead, please email facilities@eit.ac.nz with your permit number and up to two vehicle registration numbers that you would like linked to your parking permit. Please note only one of your registered vehicles will be eligible for parking per day.
Please do this by Thursday 30 July so your vehicles are recognised by the Licence Plate Recognition cameras from 1 August.
Staff are no longer able to purchase parking permits, rather they will need to purchase parking through ParkMate.

Disability parking permits
Disability parking permits are available from Te Pae Hono. Either pop in and see Disability Support Advisor Desley Aranui or send her an email DAranui@eit.ac.nz.
Current permit holders’ information will be updated on the new system.

How much does parking cost?
- The daily parking fee remains $2.00 per day.
- A new 30 cent transaction fee applies to casual parking payments.
- Subscription parking remains available and includes a 1.75% payment processing fee.
When do I need to pay?
- Parking charges apply between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
- Parking remains free during the annual summer closedown period from 1 December to 31 January.
What if I don't have a smartphone?
- If you don’t have access to a smartphone, the ParkMate app can also be accessed from a laptop.
- There are 450 plus free parking spaces available at the large car park in front of Student Residential Village, over 300 free parks at the PGA, and more along Gloucester Street and surrounding side streets.

What if I don’t have a credit or debit card?
EIT, like many organisations, is transitioning to cashless payments for parking. The cost to administer a cash–based system is uneconomic. We recognise this may disadvantage a small proportion of users, however there is significant amount of free parking in close proximity.
What if I have privacy concerns about how my data is stored on the ParkMate app?
Please see ParkMate’s Privacy Policy. They are legally bound to keep all personal information private and confidential.
What happens if I have visitors?
- Paid visitor parking remains available at the front of campus with a one-hour time limit.
- If free visitor parking is required, please arrange this through your school or department administrator before your visitor arrives. Otherwise, visitors can use ParkMate to pay for parking.
How will students or visitors who don’t visit campus often know about this change?
There will be signage and QR codes displayed prominently around car parking areas, including information on where free car parking is available.
Can I still buy a weekly, monthly or annual pass from facilities?
No – you will need to purchase your subscription through the ParkMate app.
What do I do if I am using a vehicle different to the ones I have already listed with facilities?
Please contact facilities@eit.ac.nz to let them know of the change as soon as possible.
What about deliveries and pick-ups?
- The existing 30-minute grace period remains unchanged.
- If a delivery or visit is expected to take longer than 30 minutes, the driver should report to the Facilities Office on arrival.
Who do students contact about parking infringements?
Parking enquiries relating to infringements should be directed to the parking enforcement provider using the contact details provided on the infringement notice.
