Sport Hawke's Bay – EIT Sport Scholarship
Overview
The Sport Hawke’s Bay and EIT Sport Scholarship is designed to support student-athletes who are striving to maintain a balance between their academic studies and sporting commitments. This scholarship offers financial assistance to help ease the pressures of juggling both pursuits, enabling students to focus on achieving excellence in the classroom and on the field.
This scholarship is awarded annually to three individuals—both new students about to begin their studies and current students returning to EIT Hawke’s Bay. Students who actively represent a sports team within the Hawke’s Bay region are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship.
Scholarship value: $2,000
Eligibility criteria:

- New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Enrolled as a full-time student at EIT (either starting or returning)
- Actively involved in a sports team or club in Hawke’s Bay

Master of Health Science - EIT ISH Scholarship
Overview
In collaboration with the EIT Institute of Sport and Health (EIT ISH), the EIT School of Health and Sport Science is pleased to announce the availability of a scholarship for applicants undertaking research in the Master of Health Science.

Who’s this for?
Students must be enrolled in the Master of Health Science programme (180 credits) and must complete at least 90 credits at Level 8 and a 90 credit research thesis at Level 9.
What does it cover?
This scholarship covers the full fee (domestic student) for the research thesis course. This will allow a high-achieving student to carry out a research project utilising the state-of-the-art research facilities at the EIT ISH.

Clubs Napier Centenary Scholarship
Overview
The Clubs Napier Centenary Scholarship was established under the Napier RSA to make tertiary studies more accessible by providing financial support to young people, school leavers, and first-year students for whom cost is a barrier, enabling them to reach their potential.
In 2025, Ōtātara Trust Inc introduced the new scholarship funded by a bequest from the Clubs Napier Centenary Trust, formerly known as Napier RSA. This scholarship is awarded annually to one first year student starting their health focused programme at EIT Hawke’s Bay.
Scholarship value: $2,500

Te Maari Joe & Audrey Robin (Nursing) Scholarship
Overview
In 2025, Te Kupenga Haoura introduced two new scholarships to students at EIT | Te Aho a Māui in honour of Te Maai Joe and Audrey Robin. This scholarship is to be awarded annually to a Bachelor of Nursing student studying full-time in their 2nd or 3rd year of the degree at EIT Hawke’s Bay.
Whaea Te Maari and Whaea Audrey were instrumental in the founding of Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri more than 30 years’ ago; driven by a mission ‘to fund and provide a broad range of health, education and social services based on kaupapa Māori practices’ in Ahuriri and wider regions. We honour their vision of healthy, strong, well-educated and informed communities through the gifting of these scholarships.

By supporting and encouraging others, we help them reach their full potential.
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates:
- Willingness to work within a kaupapa Māori framework.
- Sharing the vision and tikanga of Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri.
- A focus on primary care, leadership, and community involvement.
The recipient of the Te Maari Joe & Audrey Robin (Nursing) Scholarship must be willing to complete a clinical placement at Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri.

Eligibility criteria:
- New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Open to individuals of any ethnic background
- Applicants must have a full-time or equivalent study load.
- Applicants must be undertaking their 2nd or 3rd year studies of the Bachelor of Nursing Degree at EIT Hawke’s Bay.

Dianna Lewer Memorial Award for Excellence in Mental Health Nursing
Overview
The Dianna Lewer Memorial Award was established to honour the legacy of Dianna Lewer, a dedicated Mental Health Nursing lecturer at EIT who passed away in January 2000.
This award was made possible through a generous donation by Dianna’s husband, with further contributions from EIT’s Ōtātara Trust, the central region branch of the Australia and New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses, and many colleagues and friends.
This award recognises one dedicated pre-registration Bachelor of Nursing student annually, in either their second or third year of study. Selection is based on academic and clinical excellence, with special consideration given to those students who can demonstrate a strong commitment to mental health nursing.
Eligibility criteria:
- Full-time student studying in year two or three of the Bachelor of Nursing Degree at EIT Hawke’s Bay
- Open to both domestic and international students
Submissions must include:
- A personal statement of up to 500 words on “Why I would like to be considered for the Dianna Lewer Memorial Award.”

United Friendly Society Scholarship for Excellence in Pharmacotherapeutics
Overview
This scholarship is awarded annually to a third-year Bachelor of Nursing student at EIT Hawke’s Bay who demonstrates a strong understanding of pharmacotherapeutic principles and their relevance to patient and community health care.
Selection is based on academic excellence or improvement, practical ability, consistency of work effort, motivation and attitude, and the student’s ongoing commitment to further study.
Submissions must include:
- A brief statement describing the relevance of pharmacotherapeutics to their formal study
- A Nursing Care Plan or Teaching Plan from their coursework, demonstrating sound pharmacotherapeutic knowledge and its impact on health outcomes

- Full-time student studying in year two or three of the Bachelor of Nursing Degree at EIT Hawke’s Bay
- Open to both Domestic and International Students

Perpetual Guardian | New Zealand Nursing Fund
Overview
The New Zealand Nursing Fund is designed to support nurses in continuing their education and professional development.
Application open: 4 August 2025
Applications close: 22 August 2025
Eligibility criteria:
- Are based in Wellington Central Hospitals – particularly cardiac nurses advancing their expertise in cardiac nursing OR
- Are based in the Taranaki district or Taranaki Base Hospital, studying in any capacity OR
- Have attended secondary school in Napier / Hawke’s Bay / Havelock North and preferably undertaking a nursing qualification at the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT).

OneChoice Futures Grant
Overview
At OneChoice, our goal has been to protect the quality of people’s lives. We do this by providing a range of insurance products and policies, including life, income protection, or funeral insurance, designed to meet the needs of everyday New Zealanders and offer peace of mind at an affordable price.
We know that health for you and your family is only ever as good as the people who are providing it. And we know that finances are a key factor for families as well as insurance products and services. So, with that in mind, we are helping to encourage the best people into the healthcare, business, and finance industries by providing the OneChoice Futures Grant.
The Award
This Grant is awarded annually to one person, with a monetary value of $5,000 NZD.
This amount is paid as a one-off payment to the Winner.

Eligibility criteria:
- To be eligible, you must be a domestic undergraduate enrolled full-time in an accredited New Zealand Tertiary Education Institution and studying for a certificate, diploma, degree or traineeship in any of the following areas:
- Business – including any business-related courses from any institution.
- Finance – including actuarial, statistics, accounting and general finance courses.
- Medicine – including medical and health sciences, surgery and medical research.
- Healthcare – including health and fitness-related specialties, sport sciences, health services assistance and international health.
- Specialist healthcare – including nursing, optometry, dentistry and pharmacy.
- Only citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand can apply.
- You must have reached 18 years of age to enter.
- Employees and immediate family members including the spouse, de-facto spouse, parent, guardian, child or sibling (“Immediate Family Members”) of a OneChoice employee are ineligible to enter. Employees, and Immediate Family Members of Greenstone Financial Services Pty Ltd and Greenstone Financial Services NZ Limited are also ineligible to enter.
- Entrants must abide by the Terms and Conditions for an entry to be deemed eligible.
The challenge
To apply for the OneChoice Futures Grant, you’ll need to write an essay (maximum 700 words) on why you want to work in your selected industry and the difference you hope to make in your particular field of study.
We’re looking for submissions that reflect a true desire to improve the quality of people’s lives. It doesn’t have to be great prose, just honest and from the heart, so start thinking about the real reasons you’ve chosen the career path you have and then put them into words.

Selection process
The Winner of the Grant will be selected and awarded by a panel of judges from the OneChoice team in their absolute discretion, on the basis of the entry that best grasps the challenge. The panel for the 2025 Grant will convene from 15 November, 2025.
Notification
The Winner of the 2025 Grant will be notified by email and phone, with their name published on the OneChoice Insurance website on 2 February, 2026.

New Zealand Seniors Aged Care Futures Grant
Overview
New Zealand Seniors was established to provide cost effective insurance solutions for mature New Zealanders in 2019. We do this by providing a range of insurance products and policies, including Life and Funeral Insurance, designed with the needs of over 50’s in mind. We believe in supporting the aging community of New Zealand in a number of ways, and a big area is healthcare. So, with that in mind, we are helping to encourage the best people into the aged care industry by providing the New Zealand Seniors Aged Care Futures Grant.
The Award
This Grant is awarded annually to one person, with a monetary value of $5,000 NZD.
This amount is paid as a one-off payment to the Winner.
Applications open: 15th February 2025
Applications close: 31st October 2025
Eligibility criteria:
- To be eligible, you must be a domestic undergraduate enrolled full-time in an accredited New Zealand Tertiary Education Institution and studying for a diploma, degree or traineeship in any of the following areas:

- Aged Care
- Aged Care Nursing
- Dementia Care
- Disabilities Care
- Any other courses leading to similar careers as an aged carer

- New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident aged 18+
- Employees of New Zealand Seniors or Greenstone Financial Services NZ Limited, and their immediate family members including a spouse, de-facto spouse, parent, guardian, child or sibling, are ineligible to enter.
- Entrants must abide by the Terms and Conditions for an entry (application) to be deemed eligible.
*EIT Bachelor of Nursing students are eligible to apply, provided they demonstrate a clear focus on aged care in their application essay, even if they later branch into other nursing specialisations.
