Tairāwhiti Polytechnic gains NZQA accreditation for the popular area of massage. New accreditation is granted in the following areas: Aromatherapy to Level 4, Complementary Therapies to Level 6, Massage to Level 6 and Core Health to Level 4.

Five $2,000 COMPETENZ Scholarships are awarded to engineering students who enroll in the Engineering programme in 2006.

In 2006 8,201 students are enrolled which equates to 1,789 EFTS.  Student age range is 17-82 years with 52% women and 71% Māori. There are 225 FTE staff and the annual operating revenue is $18 million and a $5 million deficit.
