Te Puni Kokiri under takes an assessment of Tairāwhiti Polytechnic and its responsiveness to the educational needs of Māori through  assessing the legislative framework, governance and accountability and funding issues in proportion to the Māori population in Tairāwhiti.

Professor Jack Richards makes a long term commitment to a scheme under which he will annually donate $9000 in grants to Toihoukura. He will take responsibility for funding the Ruanuku Award each year and providing three annual scholarships to encourage the recipients to progress to the next level of study.

Under a conjoint agreement EIT’s Foundation of Nursing Programme begins in July.
