They play teams one third or one half their age but working in a polytech has given them incredible skills not matched by the opposition.”(RM) The team won the Carmichael Cup.

Wine tutor Jeff Sinnott and students gain a bronze medal at the prestigious Air New Zealand wine awards in Auckland for the 1995 Waimata Chardonnay.

Te Tohu Paetahi (BA in Māori from Waikato University) begins.

A new programme on possum control is initiated by Nisbet Smith in his role of meeting rural community training needs when he meets Steve Boot in Opotiki. The programme provides bush survival, safety and health training to gain a gun license and a poison handling license. Courses are taught from Coromandel to Stewart Island during the next 10 years.
