The current tertiary staff move into the new Senior Technical Division along with an extensive list of part-time specialist tutors and 1.5 administrators.

Joyce Gedye, Phil Gaukrodger and Ken Wong are appointed course supervisors and with the provision of torches and a warning to look out for pot holes, one of their roles requires them to visit the various night classes held throughout  Gisborne.

With the appointment of David Scott, courses are also made available throughout the region under the Rural Education Activities Programme (REAP). Many of the courses are held in marae, schools, private homes and woolsheds and classes include fencing, wool handling, repairing small motors, carving, harakeke, spinning/weaving, landscape gardening  etc.
