Figure 6 Phil Gaukrodger Carpentry Tutor 1975 – 2010

Phil Gaukrodger and Don Stewart are appointed by Hawke’s Bay Community College to teach carpentry apprentices in May 1975. Phil teaches from 1975-2010. His apprentices learn their skills in a newly constructed ‘Barn’ next to the 1904 wooden building when the staff and pupils of Central School move to another site. The Barn becomes the Carpentry Section and later is moved and incorporated into the Toihoukura building.

Teaching staff of the tertiary division include Joyce Gedye (Whitley) who had replaced Trudy Meredith and Ann Deans (Secretarial Studies), Phil Gaukrodger and Don Stewart (Carpentry) and Ken Wong and Don Coles (Automotive/Engineering).
