Profile

My name is Warren Payne I am a Forestry Tutor for EIT Tairāwhiti in Gisborne.  I have lived in Gisborne all my life. I had worked in the Forest for 37 years before I decide to make a change and become a Forestry Tutor.  There are so many different jobs available to a person wanting to join the industry.  Some of the aspects of Forestry that I have been involved in are Scrub cutting, Burning, Road building, Animal Control, Aerial Spraying, Planting Pine tree planting, Willow pole planting, Tree Releasing, Pruning, Thinning, Harvesting, Fire Fighting, Forest Data Collection, Training, Forest security.

As a Tutor I am now able to share my experience and give back to the industry that I have been part of for most of my life. It’s really rewarding hearing and watching your students use the knowledge and skills they have learnt from you. Forestry on the east coast is now here to stay and already we are soon to see the harvest of the second rotation. That means some of our forests are soon to be harvested for the second time.
