Profile
Dr Carolyn Russell is a senior academic at EIT, where she has been a key contributor to teaching and programme development in viticulture and wine science. She holds a Bachelor of Technology with First Class Honours and a PhD in Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering from Massey University. Her early career included research in biological waste treatment at the New Zealand Dairy Research Institute.
Carolyn’s academic journey has spanned New Zealand, Australia and China. While in Australia, she completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Education at Ballarat University and held a teaching and research role focused on fermentation engineering and brewing studies. She also served as Programme Manager for the Bachelor of Food Technology and Biotechnology.
At EIT, Carolyn teaches wine microbiology and wine science in both New Zealand and China and coordinates the viticulture and wine science programmes. She has led the development of online learning initiatives and played a pivotal role in establishing and managing international education partnerships, including the joint programme with QiLu University in China. Carolyn has provided academic leadership in viticulture and wine science education, ensuring high-quality outcomes for students.
Carolyn is passionate about education and is dedicated to supporting student success, with a strong commitment to creating inclusive and engaging learning environments for both domestic and international learners.
