EIT lecturer participates in Al Gore’s Climate Reality Training

June 4, 2019

For Pii-Tuulia Nikula environmental issues are a top priority

EIT senior business lecturer Pii-Tuulia Nikula has an exciting and busy week ahead. She is one of the participants of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training from June 5 – 7 in Brisbane. The training is organised by the Climate Reality Project, founded by past USA Vice-President Al Gore.

“I’m really excited to participate in such a significant event,” says Pii-Tuulia. “The various workshops will give us an understanding of the road ahead for the climate movement,” explains Pii-Tuulia. Participants learn to become effective educators and leaders, equipped with essential skills for communicating climate science. Leading experts will discuss strategies for implementing practical sustainability solutions – something that Pii-Tuulia wants to bring back to EIT.

At EIT, there are already a lot of things happening in relation to sustainability. EIT for instance, was one of the first organisations to join Biodiversity Hawke’s Bay as a Corporate Biodiversity Guardian.

In addition, EIT, in conjunction with various regional stakeholders, is currently developing an Environmental Education Centre to improve awareness and understanding of the environment.

Pii-Tuulia believes that sustainability issues should be a key-part of all EIT programmes, from building and hairdressing to business, health and primary industries. “I would like to initiate a debate, raise awareness and share ideas around sustainability. It is our responsibility and action is needed now.”
