Are you keen to watch some of New Zealand’s future kitchen maestros dishing up their finest creations?

After weeks of training, Hawke’s Bay’s most talented junior chefs are ready to exhibit their cooking skills at the NZ Chef’s Hawke’s Bay Regional Salon 2019 on the weekend. The cook-off is managed by NZ Chef’s Association in conjunction with EIT and hosted by EIT.

For this year, there are over 80 students from ten secondary and intermediate schools as well as 15 EIT patisserie students competing in numerous static and live cooking battles. The different categories range from celebration cakes, iced cupcakes, café sandwiches, curry and salmon mains to artisan breads.

Under the critical eyes of industry judges, the promising junior chefs will share the experience of cooking in a competitive and real-time environment.

“EIT is pleased to continue to support the event. It’s great to host the young cooks at our place and get them enthusiastic about cooking. Our focus is on supporting and developing young people by showcasing what exciting career paths hospitality has to offer,” says Glenn Fulcher, Head of School of Tourism and Hospitality.

The live competitions run on Sunday, 12th May, from 6am to 4 pm, and all the statics are on display during these hours too. The NZ Chef’s HB Salon closes at 5 pm with the prize giving. The event is open to the public on Sunday, and there are coffee and little treats available for purchase at EIT’s Scholar’s Restaurant.
