Wine and Viticulture Students Explore Wine Regions

October 16, 2018

A large cohort of wine and viticulture students and staff from the School of Viticulture and Wine Science recently explored wineries and vineyards in Marlborough and Nelson.  It was the annual field trip aimed at broadening their understanding of other wine regions.

The group of 38 students comprised all EIT’s 2nd year degree students and all graduate diploma in oenology and viticulture students.

The students learnt about different varieties and what various winemakers are trying to achieve with those varieties. The scale of some of the properties in Marlborough are vast compared to what is found in Hawkes Bay. The days were full but varied with a wide range of industry experts sharing their knowledge with the students.

The final afternoon was hosted by Indevin which wowed the students with the scale of their viticulture, the winery organisation and the opportunities available within a large organisation.

Thanks to these organisations for their hospitality: Plant and Food Research, NMIT, Bart Arnst, Cloudy Bay, Seifried Estate, Waimea Estate, Stoke Brewery, Yealands Estate, Loveblock Wines, Constellation, Spy Valley, Framingham Wine Company and Indevin.
