Exhibiting artist Eve Kireka with works created last year for her EIT honours degree studies. Eve is cradling a kāuau, a traditional Māori flute. She expects to complete her Master of Professional Creative Practice mid-year.

A two-week exhibition in Hastings is drawing together professional artists in a celebration of inclusivity and community in creative practice.

The Wai-hanga-rua exhibition runs at the Hastings Community Art Centre from 29 January to 10 February.  A welcome (mihi whakatau) will be held on Saturday, 3 February.

Initiated by EIT ideaschool lecturer Raewyn Paterson, the exhibition will feature painting, sculpture, mixed media, digital, fashion and design.  Many of the works will be available for sale.

All the exhibiting artists have a connection to ideaschool.  Some are lecturers, others are students and recent graduates while others have long been associated with EIT’s arts community.

The works variously explore the themes of wāhine, recycled materials and Te Tiri o Waitangi. 

The exhibiting artists are Raewyn Paterson, Emanual Dunn, Kylarni Tamaiva-eria, Peni Edwards, Mana Keefe, Mihi Ratima, Deborah Jacqueline Hope, Kezia Whakamoe, Maakarita Paku, Eve Kireka, Misty Ratima, Ange Wilson, Linda Bruce, Susan Mabin, Paula Taaffe, Joe Rowntree and Pita Kire.  Others may also take part.
