EIT Hosts Second Teaching and Learning Conference

November 16, 2008

EIT Hawke’s Bay stages its second Teaching and Learning Conference in October, anticipating that the event will continue to be held on an annual basis.

Having attended the inaugural conference, Ako Aotearoa – the national centre for tertiary teaching excellence — has stepped in as this year’s key sponsor.

Last year’s conference attracted 75 delegates from throughout New Zealand, and organisers expect more than 110 will register this time round.

EIT’s teacher development advisor Lesley Petersen says interest has widened to include delegates and presenters from the USA, Australia, Israel, Thailand and Malaysia.

Keynote speakers will be senior lecturer and flexible learning advisor at AUT, Peter Mellow; Professor of Higher Education and director of the new centre for teaching, learning and curriculum at Melbourne’s La Trobe University, Tom Angelo; education consultant and emeritus professor of Massey University, Tom Prebble; and University of Canterbury lecturer Dr Billy O’Steen.

The theme for the conference, being hosted at EIT’s Taradale campus from 1-3 October, will be Student Success:  A New Era in Ways of Learning.
