Tairāwhiti students living in the Wairoa district have a daily bus transport to the Gisborne campuses. A 14 seat bus is provided from the polytechnic’s fleet. Tairāwhiti Polytechnic collaborates with NZ Employment, ETSA and the Wairoa District Council to encourage young people off the jobless register and into meaningful training with this transport initiative. The bus leaves Wairoa at 7am each week day returning to reach Wairoa at around 5pm. The bus picks up students at other spots on the way.
22% of MoE funded EFTS are now in degree related courses.
The number of Christchurch College of Education students studying in Tairāwhiti Polytechnic will treble from 30 to 100 between 1998 and 2000 through an agreement to offer the two year Diploma in Early Childhood Education, the three year Diploma in Primary Teaching and the one year Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching. This conjoint agreement is managed by the Department of Social Science.
