There are now five full-time courses which lead to degrees. These are Bachelor of Arts (Social Sciences), Bachelor of Social Work from Massey, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science (Technology), Bachelor of Management Studies (using the pathway of the National Certificate in Business Studies) from the University of Waikato as well as the one year Certificate in Māori Studies and the part-time study towards the Unitech Certificate (Women Studies) again with Waikato.

Student accommodation is now available at Roebuck House (The Flying Nun) and currently houses 30 students. The lease lasts for 3 years.

The EFTS grant from the Ministry of Education for 1994 is just over $5 million (including GST). This is a 6.7% increase from 1993 and is the seventh highest out of 25 polytechnics.

Tairāwhiti Polytechnic is represented at meetings to discuss what needs to be done about the many people out of work with the closure of the freezing works. Te Kaitakawaenga Māori, Barney Tupara works with iwi initiatives to assist with further training needs for the people affected.
