Programme Outline
The NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills (Outdoor Recreation) [Level 2] will introduce you to the outdoor and recreation fields.
The programme involves taking part in the planning, preparation and undertaking of a number of land and water based recreation and adventure activities.
Tasks or activities may include:
- Planning and preparation for outdoor activities
- Participating in field trips
- Planning an event
- Using community services
- Improving your digital literacy

Career and Study Opportunities
Upon graduating you could progress onto the NZ Certificate in Outdoor Experiences [Level 3] or NZ Certificate in Sport, Recreation and Exercise (Multi-sector) [Level 3]. Following this you could continue onto the NZ Certificate in Outdoor and Adventure Education [Level 4] or NZ Certificate in Exercise [Level 4].
Career opportunities could be found within the recreation or tourism sectors.
Entry Requirements
This is an open entry programme which means no formal qualifications are required. You must be aged 16 or over and you are required to have a reasonable reading level in order to cope with the programme and to carry out written instruction.
Information Session
An information session is recommended as it is an opportunity for us to clarify what is involved in the programme and to get to know you, as a potential student, to make sure the programme is right for you.

All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme.

You’ll also need to know what you want to study – your degree or programme and majors and/or minors, and the courses you plan to take.
