The Catering Section is severely damaged by fire. While classes are moved to temporary facilities in a closed down Peel Street restaurant, the whole catering area is repaired and redecorated.

Professor Jack Richards presented the inaugural Ruanuku Art Acquisition Award to Sid Tamanui and under the terms of the award Sid’s art work Tane nui a Rangi will now become part of the permanent collection of the Gisborne Museum and Arts Centre.
