Year 13 Scholarship
Are you currently a Year 13 student and thinking about further study in 2026? EIT is offering Year 13 scholarships that could make life a bit easier for you.
Year 13 Scholarship
The Year 13 Scholarship supports school leavers across the Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti regions to study any one of our degrees or selected diploma programmes that lead into a degree by providing one year Free* study.

* Conditions apply. The Year 13 Scholarship covers one year of tuition fees including any course related costs which have been approved to be included as part of the scholarship. When combined with the Government Fees Free initiative, some Year 13 Scholarship recipients are studying fees free for two years of their degree.
Opening and Closing Dates
Applications open: 1st July 2025
Applications close: 31st August 2025
All applicants will be notified, via email, of the outcome of their application on Monday 29th September 2025.
What does the scholarship cover?
The Year 13 Scholarship covers one year of tuition fees including any course related costs which have been approved to be included as part of the scholarship. When combined with the Government Fees Free initiative, some Year 13 Scholarship recipients are studying fees free for two years of their degree.
Who can apply for this scholarship?
- You must be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
- You must be a Year 13 student from Hawke’s Bay or Tairāwhiti/Gisborne
- You must meet the degree (or eligible diploma) entry criteria and intend to undertake full-time study at EIT, starting semester one February 2026.
What to include in your application
- A copy of your Academic Transcript from your High School, or NZQA New Zealand Record of Achievement (NZRoA).
- An Academic Reference from your current High School focusing on your academic achievements, your engagement in class, and how you are as a learner.
- A Character Reference from either a community group or organisation, i.e. church, sports team, or club you are apart of or from your current high school.
The character reference (letter of support) should emphasise the applicant’s overall calibre, including their contributions in the community or activities outside the classroom. It should highlight personal qualities, leadership capabilities, and general character rather than focusing solely on academic performance.
Selection
All applicants will be notified, via email, of the outcome of their application on Monday 29th September 2025.
When selecting our scholarship recipients, we will consider your future career aspirations, academic and personal achievements, any challenges you may face your financial need and your overall character.
Limited number of scholarships are available and priority will be given to degree applicants from Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti. Conditions apply.

The Government has announced that Fees Free for the first year of study or training will finish at the end of 2024. A final-year Fees Free policy will replace it, starting from January 2025.
