Get your future sorted with a business diploma from EIT. This programme is practically orientated and will provide you with the skills and knowledge for 21st century business.
This diploma is a stand-alone programme providing a firm understanding of business in the New Zealand environment along with the most valuable attributes that are required in the modern business era. You’ll choose from six majors / strands: accounting, leadership and management, administration and technology, project management, human resource management, and marketing and sales.
Accounting and leadership and management can also be used as a pathway to further study, transitioning straight to the second year of the Bachelor of Business Studies.
Outline
The programme will enable you to think conceptually and adapt to change. In particular, the programme is designed to:
- Apply a broad range of business knowledge and skills as well as specialised knowledge and skills in selected fields of business.
- Be proactive to changes in the local, national and global business environment.
- Demonstrate business competencies including problem solving, decision-making, negotiating and using technology effectively.
- Develop and manage innovative approaches to business.
- Practise business in a legal, sustainable, ethical and culturally appropriate manner.
- Communicate, collaborate and build networks effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams and organisations.
- Gather, select and analyse information from a range of sources to inform business practice.
- Take responsibility for continued learning and career opportunities.

Career Opportunities and Outcomes
Graduates of the Accounting strand will have the skills and knowledge to be employed in a variety of business entities in accounting roles such as: finance administrator, inventory controller, accounts receivable/payable officer. Graduates may also be able to contribute to community groups in volunteer accounting functions.
Graduates of the Leadership and Management strand will have the skills and knowledge to work or gain employment as a manager/leader within New Zealand and International business entities.
Graduates of the Administration and Technology strand will have the skills and knowledge to work, or gain employment, in a wide range of administration roles in a variety of sectors. These may include personal and executive assistants, customer service consultants, project and event administrators, virtual assistants, office managers, or office administration team leader roles.
Graduates of the Project Management strand will have the skills and knowledge to feel comfortable taking on an entry level role in project management. This may include entry level roles in project management either for a corporate or volunteer entity.
Graduates of the Human Resource Management strand will have the skills and knowledge to move forward in their career with the comfort that comes with a recognised qualification. This may include entry level HR roles or supervisory or first line management roles.
Graduates of the Marketing and Sales strand will have the skills and knowledge to achieve that goal and rise to the challenge, confident in the knowledge that you have the base skills to perform. These may include entry level sales and marketing roles.
Your study pathway could progress onto: Business qualifications at degree level. Directly enter into year two of EIT’s Bachelor of Business Studies [Level 7]. Relevant industry or professional qualifications at Level 6 or above.

Entry Requirements
Entry Criteria
A personal interview is available as part of the application process. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
● Successful completion of NCEA [Level 2]; or
● Successful completion of the NZ Certificate in Business (Accounting Support Services) [Level 4], the NZ Certificate in Business (Introduction to Small Business) [Level 3] or (Small Business) [Level 4], or the NZ Certificate in Business (Administration and Technology) [Level 3] or [Level 4]; or
● An equivalent qualification including evidence of equivalent Literacy and Numeracy abilities as stated above.
If the applicant is 20 years or over:
● Evidence of relevant knowledge, skills and experience.
● In the latter two situations the applicant is required to participate in an enrolment interview with the purpose of verifying the evidence.
English Language Entry Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English must have an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to enrolment in the programme. This may be demonstrated in a variety of ways, including schooling in New Zealand, completion of the relevant New Zealand Certificate in English Language, approved scores on IELTS tests or completion of accepted international equivalents. Specific scores for IELTS and New Zealand Certificates in English Language are as follows:
● IELTS 5.5 Academic (no band score lower than 5.0)
● NZCEL Level 4 with an Academic endorsement
Entry with Credit
You may already have some knowledge or skills that can be recognised as part of your intended study. This may take a number of different forms including: study at any other tertiary institution; life or work experiences; and workplace training can also be considered. If you think you qualify, you can apply for Cross Credit or Recognition of Prior Learning.
● Cross Credit is based on the equivalency of courses or qualifications. You would apply for Cross Credit if you have passed a very similar course at the same level.
● Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is based on the assessment of your current knowledge and skills. You would apply for RPL if you had gained the relevant knowledge and skills through life experiences and informal learning situations.
● There is a fee for RPL.
● A combined total of Cross Credits and RPL credits allowed is 75 credits.
You will be asked to provide details of anything that you would like to be considered as credit toward your intended programme of study, as part of your application.
RPL and Cross Credit cannot be awarded for a course if you are enrolled in that course. An original transcript or notice of results from the institute at which you previously studied (or verified copies) will be required for all applications.

International Entry Requirements
ENTRY CRITERIA
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English Language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. English Language fluency can be verified by achievement of one of the following within the last two years:
■ New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 4 (Academic)
■ IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0
■ PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
■ International equivalents to IELTS accepted by NZQA or successful study of a programme in which English was the language of instruction (conditions apply)

Scholarships
EIT offers a variety of scholarships across various subjects and programme levels. Some scholarships are based on your age, some are specific to the subject you want to study. Not all scholarships are based on your academic ability and anyone wanting to study should investigate what scholarships are available to them.
You can find a list of EIT scholarships here however there are many more scholarships offered nationally. Information about these is on an database called “givME”. givME is accessible at EIT or at some public libraries.
