EIT tutor Patrick Doohan sets out for China

December 4, 2019

Engineering tutor Patrick Doohan was selected to go on a study trip to China.

EIT’s School of Trades is pleased to announce that engineering tutor Paddy Doohan received a 2020 Fellowship of the Winston Churchill China New Zealand Friendship Society.

In April 2020 Paddy will travel to EIT’s partner university Qi Lu University of Technology, situated in Jinan in Shandong province (China).

During his study tour Paddy will meet with mechanical engineering teaching staff as well as visit the high volume manufacturing plants in the area who are employing Qi Lu University graduates.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity and I’m looking forward to sharing ideas and forming relationships with our Chinese counterparts. Our industries differ considerably with Chinese mass production on the one hand and the comparatively small-scale industry in New Zealand on the other,” says Paddy.

“The trip will give me a good insight into teaching resources and techniques, technology and infrastructure being used. It’s also a great way of building relationships and explore what kind of industry our graduates will be competing on a global scale.”

For Faculty of Commerce and Technology Dean, Fred Koenders the fellowship opportunity will extend the field of educational collaboration between EIT, New Zealand and China. “It will also further develop our existing relationship with Qi Lu University of Technology.”
