Magpies Workshop for Students

May 2, 2017

Major sponsors for the Hawke’s Bay Magpies, EIT recently shared the love of our national game by inviting local schools to a rugby training workshop with our region’s top players.

Eighty-five students from nine high schools throughout the region gathered at Tamatea High School to take part in the training event. Magpies’ players and coaching staff upskilled the Year 11-13 students – both girls and boys.

“It was a great opportunity for students wanting to sharpen their ball skills,” says EIT marketing director Brenda Chapman. “We actively support sporting
achievement in Hawke’s Bay, awarding a range of scholarships to encourage emerging talents to stay local while gaining their tertiary qualifications through EIT.”

Like the Magpies, EIT shared its expertise at the workshop.

Programme coordinator for therapeutic and sport massage Sheryl-Lee Judd demonstrated massage techniques while Marcus Agnew, marketing leader
for the Hawke’s Bay community fitness centre trust project, also presented.

There was also a presentation on sport nutrition by newly-appointed School of Health and Sport Science lecturer Adam Blake.
