New Masters and Postgraduate Diploma

December 7, 2016

2015-otatara-pa-ksimcox-1Two new exciting postgraduate programmes for people whose work focus is people.

A new Masters in Professional Practice and Postgraduate Diploma will suit social workers, teachers, community/iwi development practitioners, counsellors, and health practitioners who need to understand the value in people’s lives of customs, beliefs, values and language.

Students will learn through collaborative interdisciplinary study which will be framed by mātauranga Māori. Critically reflecting on their strengths and challenges in their work and practice, and their work passions and interests are key learning areas.

The NZQA panel has commended EIT Te Aho a Māui for its commitment to an authentic bicultural approach in the development of these programmes. The panel also commended EIT’s collaborative cross disciplinary approach, its commitment to appoint an associate professor/professor of Māori and Indigenous Research and the EIT support services that had contributed to the development of the programmes.

Subject to formal approval and accreditation, the first intake will be in February 2017 for Te Tohu Tītohu mō Te Aka Whakaaroaro/Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Practice and Te Tohu Paerua mō Te Aka Whakaaroaro/Master of Professional Practice.

Reflecting the bicultural nature of Aotearoa New Zealand, the programmes are to be jointly offered by Te Ūranga Waka (EIT’s School of Māori Studies) and the School of Education and Social Sciences. Both programmes offer flexible part-time and full-time study options with block wānanga and online learning.
