EIT is the official and exclusive education provider to the Hawke’s Bay Magpies.
The partnership between EIT and the HBRFU has seen rugby players supported through their tertiary studies, and EIT’s Recreation and Sport team provides support to the HBRFU Academy squad.
The sharing of expertise has provided Recreation and Sport students with many work experience opportunities. These recently led directly to the HBRFU employing Shal Addis and Jarvy Aoake to work with the Magpies(HBRU).
All Blacks Bryn Evans and Brodie Retallick and current New Zealand Under 20s’ player(Trialist) Sheridan Rangihuna are among the many players who have balanced EIT study with their rugby commitments.
In addition to his role as a senior lecturer at EIT, Marcus Agnew is a coach and technical advisor to the HBRFU.
HBRFU staff allow students into the Magpies gym to see what conditioning looks like for an ITM Cup squad. Seven of these players have been named in this year’s Super 15 starting squads.
Proud to serve Hawke’s Bay, EIT and the HBRFU look forward to continuing a partnership that is helping our players to live their dreams.
