EIT horticulture tutor Nathan Foote has been selected to be a crew member of the Ngahiraka mai Tawhiti waka one of two waka making the voyage from Te Ika a Maui to Rapanui using traditional celestial navigation. This voyage will help to solidify the fact that maori and polynesian navigators sailed freely within the pacific waters known as the Polynesian triangle, and beyond.
It is the last leg of this triangle yet to be navigated, the connection to the Cook Islands, Tahiti, Rarotonga, and Hawaii (to name a few) has already been made.
If you are interested in Nathan’s progress aboard Ngahiraka mai Tawhiti you can log onto www.wakatapu.com
We would like to wish Nathan and crew safe travel on this historic journey and we look forward to the stories upon his return.
