EIT Hawkes Bay has taken out a New Zealand title

June 14, 2011

EIT’s Apprentice Paul McDowall was the winner of the New Zealand ITABs apprentice of the year competition.

Paul was flown to Auckland to represent our region in the Certified Builders Itabs apprentice of the year 2011 finals.

I am proud to say that Paul won and we at EIT are over the moon that one of our own has taken out the New Zealand title.

The winner was announced on Saturday evening at the Certified Builders Conference dinner.

Paul was very humble in his acceptance speech thanking his wife and family for supporting him in leaving full time work to take up study at EIT for a Carpentry Qualification.

He said the competition was a big challenge for everyone involved and especially for himself at the age of 40 to basically go back to school.

While at the conference Paul had a number of tasks to complete from introducing speakers and being judged in panel interviews to bungee jumping off the sky tower without screaming. Can you imagine?

The final judging was very close with only 1 point between the top 2 finalists.

This goes to show the top quality level of Carpentry Apprentices being produced by the Itabs system. EIT in partnership with Certified builders are very proud of Paul’s achievement.
