Holstein Friesian New Zealand Scholarship
The Holstein Friesian New Zealand (HFNZ) Scholarship was established in 2012 to support Young Breeder members (aged 16–35) pursuing further education, with the aim of encouraging students who are passionate about contributing to the future of New Zealand’s dairy sector. This scholarship is awarded annually and is designed to assist with the expenses of tertiary study, including tuition fees and/or educational resources.
The scholarship is open to students studying in any field, provided their area of study can be meaningfully connected to Holstein Friesian New Zealand and/or the dairy industry. Relevant disciplines may include (but are not limited to) agriculture, animal management and veterinary nursing, environmental studies, business, finance, communications, or other related areas.
Applications close: Friday 7th November 2025
Eligibility criteria:
- Must hold a current membership of Holstein Friesian New Zealand
- Be aged between 16 and 35 years old on 1 January of the year of study.
- Be a New Zealand citizen
- Be currently enrolled in or applying to study at an accredited tertiary institution in New Zealand
- Applicants must not have previously received the HFNZ Scholarship.
The scholarship is open to applicants at any stage of their tertiary study, provided they meet the above eligibility criteria.

All applicants must submit following documentation for their application to be considered:
- Completed scholarship application form
- Letter of application (see application form for criteria)
- Curriculum vitae
- Verified copy of academic qualifications
- Verified copy of passport or visa
- Letter of support from at least one referee (see application form for criteria)
- Proof of enrolment (encouraged but not required)

Manaaki Whenua Scholarship
The Kaupapa
The Tuawhenua Trust offers this scholarship alongside Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research with the aim of promoting education and development of Tuawhenua people.
The Tuawhenua Trust is responsible for 9000 hectares of forest-covered lands at the headwaters of the Whakatane River, and has a real interest in developing people of the Tuawhenua for the future with skills and knowledge in mātauranga and environmental management. Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research has similar objectives and they have awarded funding for this scholarship through the Tuawhenua Trust as a reflection of their long-established relationship.
This scholarship is offered annually and may be awarded to more than one person each year.
Scholarship value: $3,000
What can the Scholarship be used for?
In general, funding provided through this award may be used to cover course fees and/or other costs directly associated with study or on-the-job training. The Trust will assess individual applications based on the specific nature and purpose of the proposed development.

Eligibility criteria
This scholarship is open to all people of the Tuawhenua. It is left to the applicant to demonstrate their link to the people, hapu and marae of the Tuawhenua.
The primary focus for the award of this scholarship is in the fields of forest ecology, indigenous forest management and environmental sciences and practices. However, other more general fields of study or development, such as mātauranga, leadership and management, may be considered eligible for the award.
If you think you can make a case to the Tuawhenua Trust that your development is relevant to the realm of the Tuawhenua then your application is welcomed for consideration.

RWNZ Korokipo Branch Agricultural/Horticultural Tertiary Bursary
The purpose of the bursary is to encourage residents of Hawke’s Bay to undertake further education or training in land based courses either through university or polytechnics. It is hoped that bursary recipients will ultimately seek employment in Hawke’s Bay so the benefits of their learning can be passed on to the Hawke’s Bay community and its industries.
Eligibility Criteria: Any New Zealand citizen resident in the Hawke’s Bay District
