EIT Hawke's Bay Workshops

Workshops are for year 11/12/13 high school students or people aged 15 – 18 years
(you don’t have to be at school to take part).

MONDAY 12 JULY

3D DRAWING
Who designs our world? This course is all about the design of buildings. Come and find out about architectural technology.

We will look at the role of an architectural technologist, the subjects that we cover
in our programme, and the tools and techniques we use.

9am – 12pm

EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHING – THE FIRST STEPS
If you are passionate about young children, and their development, this could be for you. Find out how you could take on an incredibly rewarding career as an early childhood teacher.

9am – 11am

PRIMARY TEACHING – THE FUN-DAMENTALS
Do you remember your favourite teachers? Find out the fun-damentals of primary teaching and what makes a great teacher.

9am – 11am

NURSING
Come and spend time in our simulation lab and learn a few basic nursing skills such as checking vital signs.

9am – 12pm

VET NURSING
Meet our beautiful animals in our new animal facility, get up close, find out how to look after them and learn some basics about working in the animal industry.

10am – 12pm

SOCIAL WORK
Social work is about working with individuals and families to build safe and strong communities. Come along and experience some of the skills you need to be a great social worker.

9am – 11am

INTRO TO DATA ANALYTICS
Discover free sources of interesting data, and be introduced to easy-to-use tools to turn that data into insightful information.

9am – 12pm

ROBOTICS LAB OPEN DAY
Join us for a chance to explore the technology in our newly-expanded Robotics and AI Development Lab. Robots, drones and machine-learning activities for all ages. Under 13s require a parent to accompany them.

9am – 1pm

TUESDAY 13 JULY

CREATING THE HYBRID
It’s time to stretch your imagination and vision! Your brief is to blend/hybridise two or more differing ‘images’ to compose a new creation of your choice.

9am – 12pm

LEARN HOW TO PROGRAMME A SMARTWATCH
Use the Python programming language and the LVGL graphics library to programme and interact via touch-screen with a smart-watch loT device

9am – 12pm

JUNIOR CHEF
Learn to cook food from around the world.

Come to EIT and learn from our friendly tutors how to create a variety of meals.
Take home your new skills and show off your culinary expertise to your friends and family.
(Please note this programme is non-credit bearing)

The first day (13 July) is free with two additional optional days (14 – 15 July ) at  $100

WEDNESDAY 14 JULY

SCREEN PRODUCTION
Many of the big movies use the green screen to create their scenes. Experience the magic of the green screen and sample a taste of the movie world.

9am – 12pm

INTRO TO AR MOBILE APPS
Create your own augmented reality (AR) mobile apps by using the online tool – Metaverse Studio.

9am – 12pm

THE TRADING GAME
Are you an entrepreneur? Discover your entrepreneurial characteristics, and then use them to experience building a business, taking risks, buying & selling, and (hopefully) making a profit, in a collaborative, interactive trading game.

10am – 12pm

EIT Tairāwhiti Workshops

Tairāwhiti Taster Day Workshops are for anyone aged 15 or over.

THAI KAI EXPERIENCE  – Cookery
A morning of fusion and flavour. Come and have a go, learn new skills and get a taste of what EIT’s hospitality courses have to offer!

Know your stuff; Local, National & International attractions, gateway cities, weather/climate e.g. cyclone season, airlines/routes and cultural knowledge.

If all things hair and beauty interest you- come and learn basic makeup and skin care tips tricks.

ENGINEERING – Trades
Interested in a career in welding, machining and fabrication? Then come along to our Mechanical Engineering workshop where you can design and create a masterpiece using metals and engineering techniques.

INTRO IN AGRICULTURE – Primary Industries
If you love animals and aren’t afraid to get your red bands dirty come and get a hands-on introduction into the lamb and beef industry.

Day: Wednesday 14th
Time: 9am-2pm
Location: EIT Rural Studies Unit (Stout street) then proceed to Papatu Station.

Bring:  Drink bottle, warm clothes, gumboots/protective footwear and jacket if raining.
