IT qualifications are in high demand not just locally but worldwide. A computing career can take you wherever you want to go. This certificate is ideal if you are a school-leaver without University Entrance or just want to get started in IT with the aim of progressing further in study and your career.

Outline

The intent of this programme for new students is to provide a broad foundation in IT knowledge which can ensure success for further advanced study. Part-time study options are available, however, the majority of NZ Certificate in IT Essentials [Level 4] students would study all four courses within the programme.

Career and Study Opportunities

This qualification can lead to positions in general businesses requiring a broad knowledge of hardware, software and IT.

Your possible employment opportunities include roles as a helpdesk operator or a trainee computer technician. However, the main purpose of the programme is to provide you with a platform for more advanced study in IT.

Your study pathway could progress onto the Bachelor of Computing Systems.

  • February (both Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti)
  • July (Hawke’s Bay only)

Scholarships

EIT offers a variety of scholarships across various subjects and programme levels.  Some scholarships are based on your age, some are specific to the subject you want to study.  Not all scholarships are based on your academic ability and anyone wanting to study should investigate what scholarships are available to them.  

You can find a list of EIT scholarships here however there are many more scholarships offered nationally.  Information about these is on an database called “givME”. givME is accessible at EIT or at some public libraries.
