The purpose of this qualification is to provide the wine industry with people who have the skills and knowledge to work as entry level cellar operators in commercial wine cellar operations. Graduates from the six month course will be able to carry out basic cellar hand tasks safely and efficiently under limited supervision. The programme includes four courses:
– an introduction to the NZ wine industry
– winery processing for both red and white wines
– practical tasks associated with winery operations
– an overview of the processes involved in finishing a wine
There are 300 hours of practical work included in the programme to prepare you to work in the industry.
In Semester 2, the 75 credit NZ Certificate in Horticulture (Level 3) Fruit Production (vineyard specialisation) will be offered to complement the Cellar Operations qualification.
