Applying the wahakura lens to Māori health development
The wahakura strategy of introducing a woven, flax, separate sleeping surface into a shared sleeping environment seems to have struck a chord among Māori mothers. There has been a 30% drop in infant mortality in New Zealand since its introduction in 2006. This presentation traces the research associated with that journey and puts an argument for the application of a wahakura lens to the development of health initiatives across the myriad of Māori health experience.
