Move into Omicron Phase 3 – Information for EIT students  

NZ moved into Phase 3 Response to Omicron at 11:59pm on Thursday 24 February. At Phase 3, the focus is on safely managing COVID-19 at home so that hospital beds are kept free for people who are vulnerable and need medical treatment. 

What does this mean for EIT? 

EIT is encouraging students who are feeling ill to get tested and self-isolate at home. If you test positive for COVID-19, you will need to isolate for 10 days.  

Any students who live with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, will be considered a Household Contact and will need to isolate for 10 days. You should get a test on Day 3 and Day 10 of your isolation. If you develop symptoms, you should get a test sooner. If you are a Household Close Contact and test positive, you will need to isolate for 10 days. 

Students should let their tutors know in the normal way if they are unable to attend class. They will be able to assist you with online learning where possible. 

For those living in EIT’s Student Accommodation, you can seek further support from the Accommodation Managers. 

How will EIT respond in Phase 3? 

EIT’s Contact Tracing Team will no longer be identifying Close Contacts once they are notified of any further confirmed cases in the EIT community. 

The following measures will be in place: 

  • EIT’s 0800 22 55 348 number will still be operational for students to inform of us of positive cases and for us to answer your questions about the changes. The operational hours of this service will be reduced to 8am-4pm Monday to Friday with a voicemail service activated after hours.
  • EIT’s website and social media platforms will be updated to contain the latest Government advice.
  • Cleaning continues each day and includes high touch areas.
  • A number of EIT programmes have moved online to support our efforts.
  • Vaccine passes are required on EIT property and masks are required.
