The 2019 New Zealand Singing School is now in full swing at EIT Hawke’s Bay in Taradale. The School features a faculty of 35 people who are of national and international acclaim, from New Zealand, Australia and Europe. This year there are 78 students, including 11 from Australia and one from India.

Singing School Artist in Residence and the Hawke’s Bay raised Geoff Sewell, founder of internationally acclaimed pop-opera group “Amici Forever”, performed at the School’s opening ceremony to the great delight of the School’s students.

Trained at The Boston Conservatory of Music in America, Geoff went on to perform on the West End in London. Geoff and his wife Simone created the world’s first multi-platinum selling, pop-opera group “Amici Forever”, which sold over 3.5 million albums worldwide and had two number-one albums in New Zealand.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Geoff on board,” says NZ Singing School Trust Chair Helen Walker.  “He has so much wisdom to share with our students – not only about performing, but also about how to promote yourself on the world stage and be commercially successful as a singer.”

Geoff will appear at the Singing School’s Gala Performance on Monday 14 January at the Municipal Theatre.

EIT has been hosting the New Zealand Singing School since its inception in 1983.  The School is held biannually at EIT in Taradale who is long-time major sponsor of the School.

The New Zealand Singing School is unique in the southern hemisphere as it covers both musical theatre and classical musical genres. It provides the opportunity to study both classical and crossover singing genres.  Many students progress to international careers and recognition, acknowledging that the School has been a turning point in their careers, helping them to decide which genre they will focus.
