Hawke’s Bay will celebrate UNESCO’s International Arts Education Week later this month with a series of workshops and an exhibition featuring the talents of the region’s arts educators.

Held annually during the fourth week of May, International Arts Educational Arts Education Week is aimed at celebrating and building arts education worldwide.

As part of that, an exhibition of works by Hawke’s Bay’s arts educators, coordinated by Sacred Heart College photography and design teacher Ashton Northcott, will be staged at Vent Gallery at EIT’s ideaschool from 19 May to 6 June.

The timing of the ideasphere exhibition will allow teachers attending the Hawke’s Bay Careers Expo at the Pettigrew Green Arena on 20-21 May to show students their work across the road at EIT.   Covering a broad spectrum of the arts, the exhibition opens at 5.30pm on Friday, 23 May and all are welcome to attend.

ideaschool will also be running a series of practical, hands-on workshops for Hawke’s Bay arts educators from Monday, 26 May to Friday, 30 May.  The day-long ideashare workshops will each cover one of five areas of the arts – fashion, visual arts, music, design and screen.
