Farewell to Tim Twist

April 2, 2014

EIT is mourning the recent passing of Tim Twist.

The institute is saluting his enormous contribution  as he served on EIT’s Council for 25 years.

He was Council chair for 17 of those years which, at that time, made him the longest serving chair of any New Zealand tertiary institution.

A Napier lawyer, Tim joined the Hawke’s Bay Community College Council in 1977 as a representative of professional associations.  Sharing a local vision to develop tertiary education, he saw EIT transform into a regional polytechnic in 1985 and Eleven years later as the Eastern Institute of Technology.

Acknowledging the dramatic changes that occurred over those years, then Chief Executive Bruce Martin said Tim left with a huge sense of satisfaction over the developments that had occurred during his term.

Standing in the centre of the Hawke’s Bay campus, the splendid Twist Library commemorates Tim’s significant contribution to EIT.
