EIT Tairawhiti’s new Hub

June 24, 2013

The new Hub is well and truly living up to its name.

Opened earlier this year, the heart of the EIT Tairāwhiti campus has become a popular spot for students, lecturers and the wider community, as news has travelled about the good food and welcoming vibe.

Much of the revamp is thanks to a $100,000 donation from the Union of Students Tairāwhiti Trust, which allowed more to be done than originally planned. As well as The Hub Cafe, the centre boasts a brand new 50-seat lecture theatre which is fully kitted out with blended learning capability, allowing classes at Tairāwhiti and Hawke’s Bay to be simultaneously taught by a single tutor.

The 12 new computers in The Hub are also proving a hit with students, allowing them to surf their way through study and socialising alike. The Hub Cafe is also being used by businesses and organisations for morning meetings and gatherings.

Cafe manager Michelle Whitley’s fresh and healthy menu is proving a winner with all, as are the premium barista coffees.
