EIT Nursing Graduate enjoys working in Wairoa

March 27, 2013

EIT’s afternoon valedictorian Bachelor of Nursing graduand Katherine Corney discovered her life calling by an indirect route.

A saxaphone player, Katherine launched into a Bachelor of Music after leaving William Colenso College.  Realising it wasn’t for her, she moved to the UK where she worked for two years in a hospital and decided that nursing was her future.  22.5 seconds

Katherine enrolled for EIT’s Bachelor of Nursing and especially enjoyed the placements.  One was at Wairoa Hospital where she now works for the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board on the Nurse Entry to Practice programme.  She’ll also be working with the district nurses as part of the new integrated healthcare system.  40 sec

She told us that all illnesses and injuries can come in, so she is getting an excellent base of knowledge.

With the livestreaming of graduation available online, Katherine’s sister who is in Shanghai, was able to watch her sister be capped as well as her valedictory speech.

Fabulous to have fibre at the Napier Municipal Theatre to continue to enhance the EIT Graduation ceremonies.
